Finding Printer Inks For Extremely Old Printers

2010-12-07

Finding printer inks for extremely old printers can be a difficult task, one that may take some research to complete. You may have held on to your old printers because they worked well and never needed to be replaced, or perhaps you're trying to save money by not updating. Regardless of which, old printers can be difficult for which to find high quality printer inks.

The best place to look is online. You can start with a simple search to see if the brand you are looking for is readily available from an online vendor. You may end up paying more than you might expect but that is going to be the case, especially for printers that are no longer being manufactured. If the larger, corporate vendors don't have it, you can try looking on online auction sites such as ebay where you may find a fellow old printer owner who stockpiled up on some ink before they stopped making it so readily available. You may have to win in an auction, but there are often options to simply purchase the product outright for a pre-determined amount. You can also try Craigslist, the benefit being that you may find someone in your area that you can go pick it up from that very day. However, with both of these last two options, you will most likely not be receiving any sort of manufacturer's guarantee and the very fact that the ink itself is probably very old means that you run a risk of the product being faulty, most likely due to no fault of the person selling it to you.

If that doesn't work, you can try contacting the printer manufacturer directly. You should be able to find some contact information either in the printer's manual (if you still have it) or online. Even if they don't have any to sell you, they may be able to point you in the direction of a printer store somewhere in the country that they know of that sells their old printer ink.

Certain types of technology can often inspire feverish fandom and you may be able to find entire online communities or forums dedicated to your old printer. If you find one of these, you will be in contact with like-minded individuals who held onto their old technology and who may be able to help you in your quest for printer inks. On top of that, they can probably help you with any other questions such as maintenance issues.

So while finding quality printer ink for old printers may not be simple, it is certainly not impossible.
